I too, have voted. If I knew how to program, and if I didn't have two small children to take care of, I'd enter. :)

Re: Christians as Buddhists

In Winfried Corduan's book, Neighboring Faiths , I like a quote in which he discusses communication between Buddhists and Christians, and succinctly points out some fundamental differences between them: "The Christian gospel redefines the issues....Instead of karma and reincarnation, it speaks of si...

Ah. Too bad it has to be coding/dev related. I was thinking of entering a sewing project I've been meaning to finish. :-p

Re: On Lame Christian Fiction

Wow, this makes me want to read Mystery and Manners even more. It's been on my "need to read it sometime" list for several years. I also need to read more of her stories; I think I have read five or six out of the thirty-four she wrote. Ever read a Flannery O'Connor story? If you have, chances are i...

Yes, I believe so. That's why it's the first stock that came to mind when I was thinking about an example stock whose share price is really high, to illustrate the power of a stock split.

Re: Stock Market Guys: Left Behind is giving back! Get in Now

SSquared, thanks for your posts. Your last one especially is spot on -- the company doesn't see the money, so I largely see post-IPO stock purchases as a sort of vote of confidence. I keep typing stuff, but it's pretty much the same as what you and HanClinto said (esp. regarding money and percentage...

Re: Hindus Protest Sony’s Hanuman Game

And believe me, there ARE Hindu terrorists in the world. Whole bunch in India these days, and they don't take kindly to non-Hindus. Definitely. Just one year ago, there was a massacre of Christians by Hindu extremists in Orissa, India. According to reports, hundreds of churches and thousands of hom...

Re: Hindus Protest Sony’s Hanuman Game

Oh yeah! I meant to also comment on the actual topic at hand -- Sony's game. It is interesting to note that it was developed in India, by Indians. The comments in Sam's link direct their anger primarily at Sony itself, but I wonder if there has been/will be backlash against the developers by those w...

Re: Hindus Protest Sony’s Hanuman Game

I clarified my assessment of Hinduism as polytheistic in terms of FORM. Theologically... yeah, it's complicated, and I suspect there's a lot of variation in their beliefs. Yeah, that's just the trouble in making any generalization about "their" beliefs. There is basically no core set of beliefs tha...

Left Behind Games Annual Report

Left Behind Games (now doing business as "Inspired Media Entertainment") filed their annual report today, with their financial info up to the end of March. Here's my little write-up. One of the more interesting parts was on page 6, "Recent Developments" -- last month, they started a new Independent ...

Left Behind Games stockholder letter

Tonnyx here, just checking in to post about Troy Lyndon's latest stockholder letter , and some other thoughts about the company. The gist of it is that last Friday, press releases came out about Wal-Mart agreeing to test market Left Behind's games in some of their stores. The stock price and trading...

Re: Hello!

haha! Orchard Road! HanClinto (my husband) just looked over at me and asked if I knew where Orchard Road was -- I went to Singapore on a study trip in 2000. I remember there being lots of big stores on Orchard Road, and we ate at the California Pizza Kitchen restaurant there once. I think that was t...

Re: Thoughts on Japanese Tennis players

Han's great and maybe he won't win, but he did do his best and we are all proud of him. I agree! @S^2: You're right, not everything has to be seen as competition, although, presumably, one enters a competition at least partly in order to compete, and possibly to win. And that brings up an interesti...

Thoughts on Japanese Tennis players

So I start rambling at home, and Clint says, "You should make a post about that!" So here I am again. If you've been reading the 4K Flash game competition thread , you know that, with the help of some of his esteemed friends on this board, HanClinto submitted an entry to said competition. ...

Re: Volunteers Needed for Huge Video Game Projects!!

Having been to several CGDC's, and having been around on the forums a while, mostly as a lurker, I've seen them come and go, people with huge ideas "from God". Are these ideas from God? I can't say. God hasn't shown me his playbook or told me one way or the other. His Word, however, lays d...

Thanks, everyone, for the responses! It's neat to hear what people are thinking about with their hobbies and interests. @Mene: I know what you mean about enjoying directing people. When I started babysitting, I found out quickly that I'm rather good at telling kids what to do (not in a mean way, but...

Turning your passion into a career

I thought I'd post a counterpoint to my previous post on "Do you think I could be a game developer?" . I came across a great article the other day called How Do You Turn a Passion Into a Career? (and should you?) . It's a long article, so I'll summarize the points I found helpful: 1. Many ...

"Do you think I could be a game developer?"

A well-known writer got collared by a university student who asked, ''Do you think I could be a writer?'' ''Well,'' the writer said, ''I don't know. . . . Do you like sentences?'' I shared this quote with Clint, who liked it, and other quotes from an essay by Annie Dillard. Clint pointed out that t...

Re: A question for the wise here (seriously)

Something I would ask them is what the protocol is for no longer attending the church. For example, in my church, if I were to leave to go to a different church, either in the same denomination, or one that our denomination has friendly relations with, then they would issue a "letter of transfe...
