Re: Prayer Request - Faith

A friend of mine is asking the question "Why do the good people in the world go to hell, just for not being Christians?" She's really struggling with it - Could you guys pray that I have the right responses, and that she holds to the truth, and really begins to understand it? Thanks. I don't know a...

Hello everyone. This is the thread for Walking in the Spirit for 2 purposes (well 3). 1) It doesn't work on some computers. It seems the problem every time is old directx drivers. We couldn't include this in the distribution for legal reasons. SOOOO here are some links :) Sorry for any inconvenience...

Re: Games that I could not get to run

Also... we couldn't get it to work on 1 computer we tested on. Turns out we had DirectX 9.0c, but it wasn't the latest version. We COULD NOT include it with the distribution because of licensing issues (you have to include the whole installer which contains every directx runtime since 2005ish - and ...

Re: Games that I could not get to run

What is the error message you are getting though? Also, for anyone that can't get it to work... I do apologize for any troubles, and I don't expect anyone to go out of their way to help, but I sure would appreciate very much anybody who could check out WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\App...

Re: CPU's Speedgame Ratings, Trivia, and Awards

Hey thanks for trying walk in the spirit. If I understood your post correctly... most likely it is the spotty support for directX. Sorry it didn't work... all other dependencies should be included though. Hope you get a chance to try it on a for-real windows machine! If you do, make sure it has late...

I'm sorry menemene. 2 questions, do you have latest version of DirectX? (I'm guessing you do). And which version of windows are you on? Thanks for at least trying :)

Re: Christo's speedgame updates

Sure! Select any drawing tool (try the line tool). On it's special tool bar, look on the far right. The 2 buttons there are 2 overlapping rectangles indicating whether you will do an alpha-inclusive blend or not, and a little squiggly that indicates whether you will use antialiasing or not. By the w...

Re: Christo's speedgame updates

Hey christo :) Looks good so far!!! About the paint.net thing... it's probably because you have antialiasing turned on for whatever tool is doing that. Just look on the tool bar at the top and turn it off for each tool as you use it if you don't want to "transfer some of each change". It can actuall...

Re: Animation Viewer

And here's the (ugly) source if anyone's interested. It requires at least the august '08 dx9 sdk. Also it only has a visual c++ 9.0 project file, although it should build in other environments (with tweaking... it does take advantage of precompiled headers in visual studio!). The cool thing about ha...

So I live in PA and my team mate(s) live in Nevada. We commonly have communication problems, but yet the art from them depends on the programming from here, and vice versa. So we had a problem where the sprite sheets needed to be formatted a certain way (a pretty flexible way... but still had to be ...

Re: 20mb zip?

So don't use an Atlas terrain :) You can procedurally generate the terrain easily I assume. As for how to texture it, you can reasonably blend a few textures together and have a decent looking terrain. Google around and you'll find methods for this all over the place. Not only that, but in our case ...

Re: 20mb zip?

On the optimistic side you can fit a LOT into 20 MB compressed if you're careful and remember your constraints. Don't forget about procedural generation of textures and things as well. :)

I was wondering about this same thing (except with violence and killing, not magic) when playing Half Life 2 a few months ago. And then yesterday I was playing some penguinz game where you tote all kinds of guns and what not and kill other wintery creatures. Still not sure where I stand (perhaps it'...

Re: Forward ray tracing

Real time brt isn't so far off (though I'm guessing you mean frt... but isn't the caustics card supposed to aid in brt?) http://igad.nhtv.nl/~bikker/ Here's one that works well if you have a system with at least 2 cores - but it's strictly done on the cpu, no gpu acceleration. Some test games have b...

Re: z-sorting algorithm?

What is your target system? This problem has been solved many times, but it just depends what you're going for. Typically these days, even software renderers implement a zbuffer so that you don't have these render glitches. Z sorting is still useful of course to keep from doing any more complex calc...

Re: Forward ray tracing

But in a typical ray-tracer we want to see the world from a camera, and usually this camera simulates an eye. So why is it a hack to give your camera the properties of an eye? That's a direct physical simulation of what your render target represents - it's not really hacky at all. (Please don't thin...

Re: New Particle Engine

Hey Brandon that looks really good. I do have a criticism as well, since you seem to welcome such things. In the example video, it's noticeable at the bottom that sometimes particles will just pop out (one second it's there, the next second it is gone) before they reach the screen edge, without fadi...

Re: Do you enjoy playing games?

Maybe it's not so black and white though. Yeah, usually the overriding goal is to have that sense of accomplishment, but there are some games that are certainly no fun at all, and you don't even have the desire to beat it and feel like you did good. So while accomplishment is usually the superceding...
