Re: mightybotme's official art thread! Updated frequently!!

Hey mightybotme, I have to say that I like your art style. I feel that things like the pointed chin, etc. sets your art apart from others'. Go for realistic if you want, but you could make an entire game using your unique art style. As far as what to do if you take the realistic route, I second Arch...

Coming back out of hiding!

Hi everyone,

After reverting into my "lurker" default status on this forum for at least a few months, I am now coming back in a conscious effort to improve my game design skills. I hope to join some of the great discussions that are always going on here!

FoHO: Why no players?

I just logged on to the beta server for Foundations of Hope Online and, as usual, was pleasantly surprised by what I found there. FoHO is a real game. It's totally playable in its current state. Seriously people, why aren't there more players online? I was the only person logged in. As Christian Dev...

I would suggest whipping up a quick program in Java or some other simple language that would replace all special symbols with their escape codes and copy it to the Clipboard.

I do all my work on a two-monitor, very well lit setup, with my iTunes on shuffle. That means I'm listening to everything from Christian Rock to soundtracks to techno...

Re: Purpose vs Scope

I want to second PhoenixFire. Think, for example, about a game centered around the Magi journeying across the middle east. Doesn't have to be preachy, it could easily be an epic adventure game in the style of Zelda or Assassin's Creed, but the Christian view shines through.

Re: About Speed Art Challenge

Well, what I meant by "animal that only appears in the Bible" is something like "an animal described in the Bible that doesn't fit the description of any animal known to be alive today" but I was lazy and didn't want to type that :D

Re: About Speed Art Challenge

What if we just set the topic as "Creature that only appears in the Bible" and leave the specific creature up to the artists?

^^ I second IrishCream, watch for hue shifts. It's possible to make a good-looking cloud using only yellow and purple crayons (same value, different hue).

In fact, since the sun's light is slightly yellow, outdoor shadows are all slightly blue-purple. Keep that in mind.

I feel like those little lines around the mouth area need to be closer to the mouth. You've drawn them way out on his cheeks.

But otherwise, nice, and I actually like the background, makes him seem like a trippy hippy =P

Re: Video Games and Moral Choices

Ok heartoffire I think I finally get what you're saying. I would NEVER play the God of War series. Awful in pretty much all regards. Sex, gore, the most violence I've ever seen in a game. Now, on the other hand, take Dante's Inferno. If that game had been made by a Christian developer I think it cou...

Re: Video Games and Moral Choices

Sorry, but I still sit in the camp of believing that a game that portrays both good and bad things, because the bottom line is that we aren't perfect. Again, like that Romans passage, be transformed. I would rather play a Christian game where you are struggling with being perfect than one in which y...

Re: Video Games and Moral Choices

God's word tells us plainly what is good and what is evil, and that is sufficient for us.

Well, sorry, but this pretty much makes playing ANY game pointless, which I'm pretty sure is NOT your argument.

Re: Video Games and Moral Choices

Yes, the Bible is clear beyond a shadow of a doubt. Evil things should not be our pastimes. BUT How can a game possibly show you how to do good without showing you how to do evil? Don't you think a game where you begin as a mercenary who kills ruthlessly, then becomes saved, would be more spirituall...

Re: Old Ruin with Fountain

I think I can answer those questions. Highpoly -> Lowpoly is usually called baking. You have to first unwrap the low poly mesh, and then have a 3D program that can bake high-poly meshes to normal, bump, diffuse, and specular maps for the low-poly mesh. It takes a while to get right but it's worth it...

I agree with Sam. Stop theorizing and start prototyping! Start to get specific with your designs. Draw maps, design interfaces, etc.

Re: Fobot 431617 - My 3d robot for a game project

I see a slight disconnect between the torso and head as far as style goes, but it's minor. Maybe the fact that his torso is a smooth piece with grooves cut in it, and the head is a smooth piece with raised lines. As far as the ear goes, if it serves no practical purpose on the robot there's no need ...

I was going to mention that, brownboot. On the one hand they are going under, on the other hand it might open the market for more "indie" engine makers.
