Re: Art workflow?

hey achild,

One thought that he might consider is leveraging his finesse with traditional art. Why not create game art by drawing it and then scanning it. I think it would show the original mark of the artist well and really create a unique effect.

Re: Yeeaaaaaahhhhh!!!

Bam! I've been totally incognito for like a year and lately I've been bitten by the gamedev bug and then I remember that it was getting close to speedgame time and I log on here and see it's starting in 2 weeks! - righteous!

Re: Help with art?

So for sprites - I was thinking something inline with the sprites from Battle for Wesnoth. With these style sprites animations are not required (although we can animate them if we want). This gives us some flexibility. Frankly I'd like to avoid animated sprites if all possible. In the next day or tw...

Community Game Annoucement

Hey Guys, First off - I'd like to formally apologize to the community for totally dropping off the face of the earth and being a terrible team lead for this community project. To be perfectly frank the last few months have been pretty 'interesting' for me. I can't say I've been operating out of a pl...

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

Hey Guys, So the last year or so I've been working hard on my design skills. Currently I do IT/net admin work for a living and I find it ultimately dissatisfying. It's been a 2 year journey after graduating from college to really find what I love. Turns out I really enjoy graphic design/art (which i...

World Building

Hello, As we begin this community project I'd like to clarify the role of world designers (level/story designers). Our intention in defining this project is that this role could be opened up to anyone in the community. It will be a little time before we get to this point but I thought I'd get this i...

Re: Community Project Proposal

Theme is open to discussion. It can also have different themes intermingled. The game art will be 2d pixel art. my help pretty much would only be useful in certain types of games. if it is all people and animals and thats the bulk of the work im of no use... can you clarify what you mean by this?

Re: Community Project Proposal

Hey Guys, As far as programming talent goes - don't forget that Matt is quite a talented programmer who will be dedicated to this project. In terms of art being consistent - it's my job to make sure that happens. I'll be sending out an email to the artists that volunteered so we can organize a plan....

Re: Community Project Proposal

The game would be developed in iterations. The initial iteration would be a very simple RPG combat framework. This iteration would have a sense of completition and honestly could be the "finished project" but if the community wishes to take it to the next iteration it may. No project will be without...

Re: Community Project Proposal

There could be a dialog/quest system. It's really up to what people want to do. In terms of what the theme is... it can be anything. The good way to think of it is a collection of short stories (that may or may not be related) within a single world. Developers/artists/content creators are free to us...

Community Project Proposal

Hey Guys, So I know I've been pretty absent lately. After the end of summer I was waylayed by a number of different things. I'm still in the thick of it but the dust is starting to settle a bit to where I can start thinking about game development. I apologize for my 2 month absence. Matt and I have ...

Re: Community Game - Calling for Information

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update - I've heard from some of you but I haven't responded to anyone yet. Lately I've been super swamped and I've haven't had any time to put towards game development. My schedule should lighten up in the not to distant future (couple weeks).

Community Game - Calling for Information

Hey Guys, Sorry it took so long to get this post out there. I've been a bit under the weather lately. So at this point we've decided on Java as the language. As heardtheword said we'll be using Github to manage the code. We'll also be using the wiki and ticket system built into github simply to keep...

Re: Speed Art Challenge #9

So I decided to bend the rules a wee bit for this one. It's not really great art but this is honestly my first attempt with colored pencils: http://www.brentonkeegan.com/portfolio/other/speedart9/speedart9.jpg Here's all the tools I used: http://www.brentonkeegan.com/portfolio/other/speedart9/speeda...

Re: Speed Art Challenge #9

Sam - I'm not sure that really answers my question.

Could I have any of those hues at varying values/saturations or am I restricted to just 4 hex values?

Re: Speed Art Challenge #9

Hey Sam,

When you say you are allowed to adjust the value do you mean having the same hue at several different values or just adjusting all of them by the same value?

Also to properly do the highlights you'll need to desaturate? do you also allow different saturation levels of the same hue?

Re: Possible Community Project

Well I will point out that Matt and I (tentatively) would be committing to a community project. Between the 2 of us we have all what's needed to make a game (at least a 2d game). We intended to be leading the project. This is an important detail because that way anyone else who joins doesn't have to...
