Re: Emergent is going out of business, Gamebryo up for sale

These business shutdowns are the reason that I prefer to work from my own codebase as much as possible. I considered Torque for my games but I like having control over my own code as much as possible. In hindsight this was a good idea.

Re: Show us your very first game!

Well, it depends on what you mean by "game." My first application that served no purpose but entertainment was a command-line Java application. It basically consisted of a 100-string array, accepted user input, then told you "you now are using a <weapon name at index>." The array was long enough tha...

Re: Current Contemplations on my Grand MMO design

Mene: Setting does make things harder, Superhero is going to make a lot of people angry. People have certain conceptions about their heroes and frankly, your perceptions aren't going to agree. That's a narrow perspective. If your game doesn't push some boundary then it won't sell. It has to push the...

Re: New Graphics Technology?

I think this is totally possible. Like charlie says, with enough polygons, plus bump, spec, normal and luminosity mapping, you might as well be calculating each individual pixel. The question is if these people have actually developed this, of which I am doubtful. The site is so very unprofessional.

Re: The Worst Website. Ever.

-There should be a "1" at the end of the "lolololololol..."

-A slowly animated background (like maybe making the stars twinkle on the bottom section)

-Use a big thick border around the Twilight pics

-Definitely flashing text. A flashing marquee? =)

Looking good...er...bad... ;)

Re: a new MMO concept (overthrowing world of warcraft)

the quests would be to essentially rent your character from you, to do tasks for them obviously, in return you get compensated, and depending how good you are at what you do thats how well you will get compensated. lets say a player pays you for using your character 12 hours while your sleeping, at...

Re: TonightMan! --- (Lava's entry)

Yes, the OSAKit works just fine, but when the actual game launches I get the same effect - Window with no title and black background, about 300x300px appears then immediately disappears. Sorry :(

Re: new idea for combat systems

Yes, an enemy would drop their gun when they get shot in the arm, but then that means your character would too.

Would you want to lose your gun in a first-person shooter?

All I get is a black window that pops up, then immediately goes away. :(

Eh, starting at a new school plus working on my other projects is going to stop me from entering this year. Just too much to do.

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to being an objective voter!

@HanClinto: I used a reference drawing. Turned out it was very hard to judge proportions etc. when his legs were so straight...
