Re: Your Design Pipeline

I've had a lot of bad experiences with add-on free libraries. That's why I've been searching for a C++ engine with physics built-in (i.e., not Ogre). Plus, I'm not a very enthusiastic guy when it comes to learning new languages. Don't mean to offend ActionScript, I've seen what it can do, but person...

Re: Your Design Pipeline

ActionScript - Isn't that the one you use with Flash? If so, I'm too cheap to use it ;)

Re: Letter Invaderz: WIP

On the new version posted on the "Post what you're working on" thread, I got a high of 187250 (on medium difficulty). I'm not a very good typist, but still, this game is REALLY fun for me.

Re: So what do you play? (instruments)

HeardTheWord, I play F Horn too.

My strongest instrument is piano, but I also play oboe.

I dabble in trombone, saxophone, trumpet, hammered dulcimer, harmonica.

Re: Your Design Pipeline

I've tried about 6 different ends to the same means...making a 3D game. Basically I'll try anything open source that's in a language I know. Design: Pen, pencil, paper, and a big eraser :D IDE: Code::Blocks Eclipse Language: C++ Java 3D Engines: Ogre3D Irrlicht (No Torque, I'm cheap) Modeling: Blend...

I don't think that teleport could be implemented by "really fast moving". Can't you teleport through walls?

Well, here I am, late. This didn't come as much of a surprise to me, because I've never programmed as a team

Re: My 3D art...is Progressing

I know exactly where you're coming from with the textures. I have tried to become a good texturer and I have suceeded (to an extent) in the following ways (sorry, I don't have time to make a video tutorial): 1) Dodge and Burn. Lay down your primary colors, and never use the paintbrush tool again unl...

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

Do we get a screenshot of the original? I didn't know I was interrupting a conversation about dirty rectangles, sorry. Anyway, screenshots are not much to look at, because the main premise of the game is that your mouse pointer is a torch with light surrounding it, the rest of the screen is dark. K...

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

I'm working on a remake of my really small applet game, Torch. This is the first anyone's heard about it, but I'm about 3/4 of the way done with the coding part, the art and content are pretty incomplete.

Re: School project - Website

I would suggest you make at least one or two of these pages for your site: About Blender (quick overview) About Me (who are you? What are your hobbies?) About the Site (why you made it, etc.) if you can write a quick making-of for one of your projects or a tutorial about it, then put that up (as its...

Re: Letter Invaderz: WIP

I get new idea about heal word.

You can make sure that a healing word only falls where there is no wall already, so it wouldn't actually thicken the wall, just repair it. If you can make the words come where there are walls, you can make them come where there aren't.

Re: Letter Invaderz: WIP

Maybe this will be a bit tough to implement...

What if when you type a "healing" word correctly, the letters fall onto your walls, adding to their thickness.

maybe like this:

Code: Select all

HEAL D
####WOR###

Re: Letter Invaderz: WIP

I think that spaces should be allowed to be typed between words with no penalty. It's kind of weird to type a sentence with no spaces. Otherwise it's /-\ \/\/ 3 5 0 |\/| 3 !!!

Just my two bits.

Re: My 3D art stinks...

JoeJoe, keep up the good work! I know exactly where you're coming from, being there myself about 6 months ago. I now consider myself an intermediate-level modeler/texturer. I have two main pieces of advice for you: 1) Use Blender, always, unless you have access to 3DS or Maya. Blender beats Art Of I...
