Re: What makes a metanarrative?

Sorry to jump back up to RRO's posts, but I thought I would mention Dawn, which is a non-existent MMORPG that has a lot of similar ideas to what you're saying: http://www.glitchless.com/dawn.html

Re: TGC Heroes released (a fighting game)

Sorry, I can't play this because my computer doesn't have a numpad and it acts up when I try to change the control scheme. It looks fun though, I got to watch my character get owned by stickman while I just ran around avoiding him =P

Re: Speed Art Challenge #1

Just curious, I noticed that your approach was similar to the concept artist for the Durian project, I was wondering, is this is a well-known approach or if there are only a few Alchemy aficionados like you?

Nice boss!

...interesting head, does it have a purpose? LOL, as if any of these "strange bosses" have a distinct purpose.

Re: Speed Art Challenge #1

Took about 1 hour 50 mins. Fully rigged and textured (albeit a lousy texture), and two animations - laser beam and machinegun firing. The render doesn't do the lasers or machinegun fire justice, I can't get Blender's alpha blending to work in the render: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3977522/killerlamp.bl...

Re: free/cheap web hosting

If you pay with a 1-year commitment, GoDaddy is $4 a month, plus they have good support for FTP and stuff. I use them because they're a good deal, but am not having repercussions in light of their sleazy advertising.

I would be all over this because I'm a big Java guy, but I'm too cheap to buy an Android phone and pay for service :P They're all pretty expensive.

Re: Animated sea creatures

I know that freelancers give high quotes, but that doesn't mean you should sell for that much. On TurboSquid, most of the Nintendo Wii's are priced at 40 dollars or higher. I knew that while not as good as the others, mine still looked good, but I priced it at $15 and have made at least 10 sales - i...

Re: Design idea

It reminds me of the old RTS Majesty. You can't command your units directly, but you can convince them to do things by putting cash bounties on the heads of monsters, "suggesting" that they move to a particular location, taxing your peasants for things you don't want them to do, etc.

Wait...we can used full-fleged art assets as long as we make them within the two hours, or what?

I understand this is a coding comp, but what if I want some nicer graphics?

Re: Physics example in game dev?

Yeah, like the plain old equation F = (m)(a). This equation is very useful even if you don't use any other physics in your game. Make a base class, say PhysicsObject. PhysicsObject has a mass and velocity. Call PhysicsObject.applyForce() and the object calculates it's acceleration and new velocity. ...
