Re: Anyone going to PAX Prime?

I hope Gencon was good to you Han! I do love me some Gencon but I haven't been able to get the time to make it lately, work always has something in the way this time of year :P. Here's a bit more about the panel; also one of my favorite pieces I've done for Kiz, period. [thumb=large]http://allenwhit...

Anyone going to PAX Prime?

Hey gang! I will be at PAX this year doing a panel for SmashMuck where we'll design a champ live on stage, which includes me drawing as fast as I can while everyone yells at me. If anyone is in the area or will be attending the con let me know! There will be a lot of downtime and I'd love to hang out.

Re: Mechanics as Metaphor

@Dizzy; Starting in the cave could work, not really a WRONG answer here just something to be careful of if that's your plot hook. I like to type random keys on my keyboard rapidly and pretend that I'm actually doing something LOL! That's awesome. That minigame was definitely on the non-engaging side...

Re: The Cross Alpha Omega Infinity Time Key of Life Protection

Hi iRock! Glad to see another artist here :). Your character is a very fun and different take on an angel! Since your character is pretty much two colors, black and gold, your renders would look a lot better against a background that is not black. Black backgrounds make characters in general harder ...

Re: SpeedArt Story Challenge #1!

I know I'm late but I really wanted to do something for this :P. Great theme mighty! [thumb=large]http://blog.allenwhite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/speedknight1.jpg[/thumb] Time: ~35 min @Archangel; the offset pattern on the stripes is a nice touch. I'd be curious to hear why you decided to turn...

Henrik! I totally agree with what you're saying. Also, since I'm a total curmudgeon and surely came off as such, I want to say I'm glad you're here, and I'm super glad you're excited and want to dig in to all this stuff. That is awesome. If this is absolutely of benefit to you I do not want you to s...

Re: The SpaceJourney Thread

Lava! I got a chance to play some more. Improvements are looking good. The gun and fade on the spiders helps a lot. I still dont' think the cracks read very well; here's what I'd try: [thumb=large]http://www.allenwhite.com/cracktweakidea1.png[/thumb] I've just put a black circle in the middle to mas...

Re: Mechanics as Metaphor

There are pros and cons to examining a notgame. The Marriage is a really good one you can google and check out. I think the most important thing to take away from these is how user actions feel. The guy that did The Marriage built around the premise that he didn't like clicking the mouse, it felt to...

Keys unlock some goodies, so if you find one yay! But you don't need one to register and get playing.

Re: SMASHMUCK CHAMPIONS!

If anyone is going to PAX Prime the SMC team will be there! We're doing a panel titled 'No, the Monkey Should Have a Chainsaw!: Design Choices in a Unique Moba' Friday at the Raven Theatre 7:30-8:30. We will be drawing and designing a new champ live on stage with the audience, comedy will probably e...

Re: Community Game extended from a Speedgame?

Yes with a Mod or Speedgame there is less to do. That's a good thing, most of us don't have time to do a lot regularly. But there are a lot of little projects that add to the value of a game... >Lets add a new enemy type. >I'll replace the art for this character that's just a palette swap atm with s...

Re: Community Game extended from a Speedgame?

Lots of good considerations in here. I'd consider a Community Mod a valid project as well instead of starting from scratch. It would certainly be easier for members to plug content in piecemeal and see the results right away. The focus would be more on content creation and feature expansion than per...

Re: Lucas Arts is dieing...

Or they made a game with great storytelling but bad endgame and poor replayability so after the initial run there isn't enough incentive to keep playing. f2p model will help get fresh players in the door, not sure it will keep them though. Users expect WoW level content which has been patching new s...

Re: Your thoughts on Magic and violence in video games?

I see where you guys are coming from. And I think the spirit of this sort of talk is in the right place :). If I step back and survey the community I think we have lots of good ideas already but not a lot of progress. We're not putting our ideas into practice and its preventing us from maturing as c...
