Re: Turn Based Strategy - Pixel Art Research!

Hey guys, so we've been taking a good long look at where we were headed with the pixel art look. My initial stuff was largely inspired by sumi ink splatters (black outline, irregular shapes, abstracted figures, etc). Which is cool, and appeals to me, but is maybe not accessible. Making the game high...

Re: Your thoughts on Magic and violence in video games?

My point is this exact debate comes up far more often than finished products do around here. That bums me out. It is not helping anyone get better at [insert creative project goal here]. Think of it this way... If I had 20-30 minutes to spend on the forum would you rather I spend it in this thread o...

Re: Meaty Christ-based old school RPG!

Can you host the demo on your own webspace so I don't have to hack thru mediafire's pop-over jungle to still not have it ever initialize the download?

Re: Your thoughts on Magic and violence in video games?

My two cents: we're all better off spending our time putting code/art/design into our games than running around in circles on debates like this that crop up semi-regularly here. It is more than a little disheartening that conversations like this generate tons more response than the threads in which ...

Re: Meaty Christ based old school RPG

One thing I have always wanted from Kickstarters is option to finance the game to some part and get percentage of the profits.
Its more like a fancy pre-order than actual investing. That would be hard to define/negotiate.

Re: Meaty Christ based old school RPG

Welcome! Looks interesting, I'm hoping to check out the demo soon. I will be sure to post as much feedback as I am able afterwards. Some KS feedback: I always hold up the banner saga as the PERFECT KS model. Take a look back at that, the new Castle Story is also doing stupid well in its infancy (300...

Re: Crowd appeal: Steam Greenlight seeks gamer approval process

Greenlight will feature some sort of kickstart-esque funding built into it. As part of Valve's ongoing approach to make Steam the end-all destination lifestyle defining core of your gaming life its a great call. This will only help them nail and promote projects they might have missed or would have ...

Hmm, interesting. Do you get page analytics, like unique users, average page views, etc?

Re: Last day of Faithfunder event

Glad you were able to get through your milestone, but sorry the funding didn't pan out like you'd hoped.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on Faithfunder and any numbers you'd be willing to share. Do they give you good analytics throughout the funding event?

Re: Congratulations, Your First Indie Game is a Flop

@tadd; If you're convinced the core gameplay is solid or close to it itterate, reskin (maybe to something more appealing like penguins in santa hats for christmas or whatever), and relaunch with a new title. The App Store is one of the worst store fronts ever created, sometimes success or failure is...

Re: Are Christian games dead?

Welcome tadd and Henrik, good points from both of you. I think defining your target audience is an excellent suggestion for pegging the direction of your project from the get-go. Moral choice comes up an awful lot in these discussions and I'd like to pose some questions about that for everybody to w...

Looking good so far! How much of this is stock?

If you have any specific art/unity questions post em up and I'll do my best to answer them.

Re: The SpaceJourney Thread

I think you do need to make the cracks more apparent and probably have more images for the different levels of damage. Take a look at brawl busters. They do damage cracks really well. You should be able to YouTube some gameplay footage and see what I mean. @bugala: it helps you stay on track when yo...

Re: The SpaceJourney Thread

Suit Damage: Needs multiple stages of damaged. A few cracks at 80% hp left, more at 50%, and so on... so that at 10% you know you're hanging by a thread. Spider Combat: My knee-jerk reaction is no HP bars; you've avoided being too game/system-ey in every other aspect so far so it would be incongruou...

Re: The SpaceJourney Thread

Lava! Awesome start to this project, cheers! This is an awesome initial slice you can itterate on and flesh out into a really cool final product. Here are a few pieces of critique I think you should focus on ironing out first before you add anything. These aren't really in any particular order.... >...

Really good tips for artists and programmers!

All good ideas, worth a skim. Some things aren't terribly novel suggestions but worth keeping in mind.
