Re: Developer Blog: Jestermax

So I went to this festival today (Festival of Music). I usually don't like it but a band I liked was playing (USS). They were surprisingly good and entertaining. One of the guy was bouncing around the stage dancing and doing handstands. Eventually they pulled out a cardboard cutout of David Suzuki a...

Re: Developer Blog: Arch

You should just give up on all of this stuff and just submit a video of you dancing around with a lightsaber.... I'd vote for that

Developer Blog: Jestermax

So tonight I played a ps2 game called Dynasty Warriors 5. I didn't think I'd like it but I gave it a try anyway. It was surprisingly fun, especially two player. I can see it getting somewhat repetitive, but I enjoyed unlocking new items and powerups. Oh yeah, there's a contest going on. I should pro...

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

I just got past my collisions hitch. I can now move characters around the world smoothly and they can jump, etc. and interact with it. Stairs are also possible and Irrlicht allows walking up them nicely. Now I can probably settle on making a demo or something!

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

So I rewrote my "Tile Engine" code using the Irrlicht Game Engine cause I got tired of having to do everything by myself. Anyway, it's more or less up to where I left off except now I have more features to play with. I won't get into what is actually in the scene though. http://jestermax.googlepages...

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

So I finally got around to getting some smaller versions of my ray tracer stuff (Really that just means I let google resize them for me on my website). They're not fancy, but I like how some of them look. http://jestermax.googlepages.com/JS_RayTracer_Apr28_2k9_B.PNG/JS_RayTracer_Apr28_2k9_B-medium;i...

Re: Talk is Cheap! Post what you're working on.

I'm back on the ray tracer horse. I've been focusing on rendering styles lately. Here's a bunch of effects I've come out with. Listed are: -Toon-shaded with an outline pass -Crazy-awesome weird render (i forget how i got it) -Bloom filter -Gooch-rendered hue mapping with outline pass http://jesterma...

Re: Some Concept Drawings

I like how you coloured the lines you drew and not the cheap "colour the white areas" way. You DO realize that you have to start posting more of your stuff now right? What type of equipment are you using?

Re: Some Concept Drawings

How long on average do those scenery pics take? I think it could be interesting to experiment with those some more

Edit: Scratch that; I just read the original post; I am a tool

Re: Some Concept Drawings

Hey dude, Outstanding work! I REALLY like the first one. I love the way you have the warm and cold contrast and that neither is really limited to its own side. :) . In my opinion though, the hills on the piece are too clean. you made a point of texturing the rest of that piece and breaking up clean ...

Re: Compiling

I've compiled Ogre3d and OpenScenegraph from source on my windows laptop with VS2995. What problems are you having? I don't remember having any major issues other than OSG took like 3 hours to compile cause it's an aging laptop.

Re: Collada DOM

Collada DOM is just a layer that handles parsing details for you. Stuff like this is "supposed" to make life slightly easier but if you don't have a use for it, or have an extensive (and working) framework then i'd say don't bother. It doesn't really sound like a mature API anyway from what I've read.

Re: 3d architect?

Hey, Jet. You might consider revising the title of this thread. "3d architect" sounds more like working with CAD. It sounds like you want a software engineer with experience creating multi-tiered applications.
Also, do you mean 3D graphics? or are you just referencing the MVC architecture?

What tools do you use for 3d and 2d art? How about posting some 2d samples as well :)

Here's a screenshot of some stuff I've been playing around with maya. I had some grief today rigging the mechanical bird but I fixed it for the most part; the inverse kinematics was screwing it up or something.

Re: Software Engineering Certificate ... worth it?

That being said, I can't imagine you'd be able to compete for jobs with actual professional SEs. Being competitive is more than just having the most impressive list of hard-skills. Although having more helps, more often than not a person becomes more competitive with soft skills and a good backgrou...

Re: Software Engineering Certificate ... worth it?

I rarely see a job posting looking for a certified developer. It is just not something I would worry about. What kind of certificate does the school give? The only thing I kind of suggest is if you want a certificate, go the Microsoft route and get a Microsoft Certified Software Developer certifica...
