Re: Vanguard: Post-apocalyptic Car Battler! (ROM12)

Hehe. Yeah, well, it is an allegory. And Robin_Harborn had a lot to do with the theme. :D So, we made some more progress last night. Robin made a map for the game, and Morgan(kc009) cleaned it up. If this was a boxed game, this would have been included in the box I think. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/35...

Vanguard: Post-apocalyptic Car Battler! (ROM12)

ROM12 has a big team this year, and we've come out of the gate running. We want to tell an allegory of my(samw3's) testimony; about the passage of faith from my parents, to the challenge of understanding its depth, making it my own, and eventually it leading me in my own life. And the game is... Van...

Re: Art workflow?

Step 1, buy a drawing tablet. The low end ones really aren't expensive, and they make a world of difference. There are a handful of artists I know that draw, scan, and clean up in Photoshop, but even they use a tablet for the cleanup work. But this is just my 2 cents as I'm not one of the "amazing a...

My point was that God doesn't call people or things Christian, men do.

Re: What makes a game 'Christian'? Should we make them?

Here are my answers to the questions.

What makes a game 'Christian'?

If someone calls it 'Christian', it's Christian. Same as for people.

Should we make them?

Yes. :)

Pfft.. Pit Droids? It's obvious that your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up any stolen data tapes, now has it.

Re: Are Christian games dead?

Here are my thoughts on why christian games haven't done well as of yet. 1. Being "Christian" does not mean we share completely common beliefs. While we believe the same core, we don't often express only those core beliefs in a game. For instance, the Left Behind game is very much more a Premillenni...

Re: Functional Programming in C++ with John Carmack

Yeah, pure functions don't require arguments passed by value. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_function" target="_blank Is immutable shared data a realistic thing to try to enforce in c/c++ code do you think? I don't think it's a strict one-way-or-the-other. There are times for both, and it seems m...

Re: Functional Programming in C++ with John Carmack

Ah, I see what you mean. It's correct that C/C++ don't have atomic operations, but if you play by the rules, you can still make it work--so long as you only use "pure" functions. And I guess we need to redefine "pure" as treating all data that comes into the function as immutable. Say you had a "pur...

Re: Functional Programming in C++ with John Carmack

"...A pure function with value parameters is completely thread safe. ..." StringArray Tokenize(String input); Now, if you call this function, what happens if, while copying whatever you pass for "input", you get half-way through, and another thread changes input to something else ? The final value ...
