I think one of the reasons is that comedy is usually not an involved process, which means it lends itself better to movies and TV than games.

What he said, comedy itself isn't involved, however, oftentimes, comedy is interwoven into many different genres, from Halo to Lego Star Wars. Part of the reason Lego Star Wars was so popular was its control system and comedy.

So we have established at this point that there is a hefty amount of comedy in games. :D

Its just that comedic aspects of the games are involved in the storylines or in the characters and how they react rather than in the actuall gameplay. I'm... relucant to bring up the subect of "Leisure Suit Larry" which for all of its vulargity was a game based on comedy. Apparetnly they tried a remake recently that failed miserably, despite efforts at making a funny game.

The things about games are, I think... well its like Bungie's montra for making games. Make five seconds of something fun, then repeat endlessly. The same might work for fun, but not nessecarily for comedy. A joke gets stale after a while so making a funny game is very difficult because the humor must be mixed up rather constanly. You can't have the same jokes playing over and over like you can have the same enemies flooding the screen.

Just my quick thoughts! :D

Seems like comedy is an element in games, I'm still trying to think if / how we've seen it as a genre (or even how that might be feasible).

The Sims: Funny Farm
Comedy Show Tycoon

Oh wait, those are non-existant games that would fall under a "simulation" genre. How *would* one define a comedy genre?

Are you refering to adult humor or child comedy? If you are refering to adult humor, take a look at Lesiure Suit Larry is for a mature audiences where as someone previous stated Lego Star Wars and others have comedy interwoven into the story for younger audiences.

Not really adult I guess but an in-between stage. or even in general. for example, the movie 300. Great movie, really gory. Then came Meet the Spartans which took that and made it funny. Why is there no, per say, games in the industry that make you double over laughing because of the cutscenes/gameplay? The dialogue may be ironic but almost never meant "just for ha-has". If you know where I'm comin' from.
