The most annoying/funny code you've found in programs

Postby ChickenSoup » Sun Dec 16, 2007 4:18 pm

I've come upon some pretty interesting stuff. A friend of mine had found the ultimate reason why nothing should be written in PHP. There was a bit of code, and then about 400 lines of more code, and then the same bit copied and pasted, followed by the comment "GOSH PHP IS SO STUPID!!!"

other things I've seen are mostly things like

Code: Select all

#Fix this later

or

Code: Select all

#this shouldn't be necessary but when you delete it, everything asplodes T_T

although I do know someone who's friend would only write comments in haikus :shock:

I remember seeing a bit of code that was hilarious... but I can't remember what it was now.

Sorry guys. :| :P

I used to write that a lot...wait... i still do sometimes :D
samples include:
// I should probably do something about this...but meh
-- I could probably do this better but who cares
and in the days of vb6:
'Figure out what this does later

I put comments like
//this should do something cool
or
//need some work

but, you think PHP is stupid?

heh, that sounds like some sort of hazing ritual for tech schools..

EDIT: I found another good one:

Code: Select all

//This doesn't need to be here at all. why the heck is it here twice?

Here are some famous ones from the Win2K source code.

My faves:

// The magnitude of this hack compares favorably with that of the national debt.

/*
* CallProc32W is insane. It's a variadic function that uses
* the pascal calling convention. (It probably makes more sense
* when you're stoned.)

I remember the first big program I did I put some pretty silly comments in the code

Code: Select all

#
#This isn't very usefull here, but I will leave it in
#
#Maybe at some point I will change this to make it better
#
#But I probably won't, and no one will really notice :)

I'll sometimes add weird pointless comments for what ever reason.. or at least add a touch of humor to them. :lol: that way when i go back and read them i can prove to myself that i'm a dork. ;)

I found a comment the other day in one of the first PHP projects I did:

Code: Select all

// URGENT: COMMENT ME! Don't forget to comment this! You're not going to remember what it's all about if you don't!

Well, I was right. I was looking at the code wondering what the heck I was thinking when I wrote it. Abysmal code, actually. :shock: Why I didn't just jot a couple of lines right then I guess I'll never know. I mean if I can write that much about commenting, surely I could have written something like "This is code calcs the difference between a henweigh and a gargekey" or something quick. [sigh]

Awesome! I'm not the only one who sometimes does this... :D

the worst one I have ever done was done to be unreadable... it was a python keylogger

actually it was meant as a joke... one boring day in computer programming class...
plus the code was a perfect rectangle.... literally! and it worked...

heres a excerpt:

Code: Select all

c='C:\\'+'l'+str(nor(12345))+'.'+'dat'#that/is~the-last_time#
def e_not(enot):#unknown_function(random)#@#"#5#y#8$92$##^###
 f12.write(chr(enot.Ascii))#or_just-skip_this#&^%$#jwowh#=###
hm.KeyDown=e_not#then_up_or_down#UpS#!^#-_#7#+#/#pow#\#|#)#,#

I have a piece of vbscript that looks something like this

on error resune next (i forget the code to turn off error checking)
if variable = 0 then
blah blah
end if
on error resume next (turn on error checking)

the problem is the variable is an int sometimes and a string other - it was a terrible work around but sometimes when the clock is ticking.

I also have a note
rem Figure out why it doesn't break here

but i don't recall why I put it in there.

In a header definition for a class called "WetPaperBag"

This is in, or was in for a very long time, the Torque source code base object class (all engines)...

Saw something like this once in C++ engine:

Code: Select all

#define   CHECKSUM   0xF00DBAD

Sometimes my own comments make no sense when read out of the code:

Code: Select all

// if the actual script file doesn't exist then execute this

 // todo this goes very un nice if there's page load error

// faith! todo
