Tune Music and SFX, show us your stuff

Postby kenman » Mon Dec 17, 2007 7:11 am

Okay, I wanted to re-instate this thread (note not resurect). Show us your music and stuff for critiqe or just to show off. I will start.

http://kenbjammen.ning.com/ Ken's Hypnomelodic Rock.

I also have been working on a song, Christmas with the Borg (I know it is odd), and you can listen to that tune here http://www.gckingoftheblues.com/profile/KenBjammen. It is pretty funny for a Christmas tune.

Dude! Christmas with the Borg is awesome! Also...what was your influence for the song/title "DuKSooop" ???? Sounds familiar to me. :)

Both of the tunes are my attempts are coding a vst plug in. I can get them to work on my one system and then I can't port them. Duksoup is just a trial of the effect. It is just a funky groove in Cminor. Christmas with the Borg is a collaboration with Chuck from KOTB. He added the drums. The rest is guitar and guitar that I have run through a synth. Just messin around stuff.

I didn't mean you copied someone else for DuKSooop, I thought you were using my domain name DuckSoupCMMS.com as an influence :P

You know, that was totally subliminal,I was thinking of a name and it just came up.

Have you ever had one of those days where you think you have a epiphany about something, and then realize that it was somebody else's idea!

Not for the weak at heart.

I was told tiny speakers may have problems.

I needed to try out a new effect I am perfecting and so to do so, I needed to create a new song..

http://www.myspace.com/kenwagman

Song - Crying over spilt coffee. I would post a link, but our website is getting kind of tight on space, so until we get more space, I am relying on Myspace...

Good stuff! What sort of effects did you use for the lead guitar in the Easter tune? Just delay and a little distortion?

How about for the bass in Spilt Coffee? I like the chunkiness of it.

The guitar is usually just Keeley DS-1 through TS-808 and delay.

The bass is ran through a virtual 8 x 10

New tuneage to listen to

Here's a song I made for the first few screens of my game, RPGesus. The song is called "Butterfly." My wife says there's a crazy part in the middle that needs to get taken out, so I'll get some other opinions, too. It's an .ogg file. Here's the DL link:

Thanks for input!

Edit: Here's an mp3 version:

That was really nice JeT. What did you use to compose it? There is a section in the middle there where things get dissonant. It's pretty much at the climax where everything is kind of mashed together, and It sounds like you have three or four counterpoints going on. Maybe take a look at the arpeggios in there and shift some notes around so you hit some more consonant chords on the beats. The resolution was nice. It has a pretty, classical feel.

Good job!

I am going to go off here and say that I appreciate the song. It reminds me very much of a classical orchestrated piece. The area in the song where the part is a little off reminds me very much of a Beethoven piece I worked on where the key of the song stayed in G minor and the underlying chord progression switched to the major key. I might have used different instruments patch for the strings, but it sounds great.. It is a thoughtfully composed work of art... It will find a place on my Ipod soon.

Ooo, cool. Thanks, guys. Great points. Man, you guys have *great* ears.

The arpegiated sections are dissonant because they're using two scales. There's one note different between the two scales, and there's a half-step between the different notes.

It's in C, but I avoid the note that's going to change a half-step. Then, when the scale changes it supposedly reinforces the "minor" feel. The whole point is to foreshadow the zombies. Hm, my terminology left me years ago! But, just to say that you guys have incredibly well-trained ears.

That makes on 8 note scale, very popular in jazz and when played right sounds cool. Functions best with Sus4Maj7, Maj11, Minmaj7, etc...
