Ninehart

Hi all once again. As I take a break from the speedgame for a moment, I wanted to share with you all a sci-fi project that I have been designing and developing since 2012. Its still in the early design stages, and despite moving ahead slowly, its moving for sure. Here is some quick background info:

The year is 2030, and human transcendence is the new religion. An Android's life is thrown into chaos after she realizes she was once human before her body was transferred to an artificial frame against her will. Living now in a synthetic body and with her former life gone, she strives to regain that which was thought lost, hope.

This is a long term project which started from a few simple ideas and has been growing since 2012. Inspired by films like Universal Soldier, Terminator and Robocop, and games like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and Uncharted, my goal with Ninehart is to tell the story through different media like motion comics, video games and film. Right now im busy developing concepts, writing the story, the background, and a film treatment. Ninehart isnt specifically a christian story nor is it an evangelism tool, however, indirectly it can lead to a conversation about those things. As a christian, I see the world through a different lens than someone who does not believe in God. And that is what will give this project such a unique voice and image as my beliefs and convictions will help mold this project into something not only entertaining, but also with a moral to the whole story.

The main character, Alice Ninehart carries a surname with a long, long history. A bloody, and deep history. However in her time, she defies family conventions becuase she is a christian. However, circumstances put her into a position she would never have been put into under her own will. When she realizes everything that has happened, she nearly loses the will to live because of the shock. However, even so deep in misery and pain, a spark of hope glimmers. One that will not only help save her, but many around her who would have otherwise never walked a better path in their lives. She will be a light in the darkness, and the chosen Ninehart to finally end a 600 year old legacy. Now that's just scratching the surface of the story.

I'd like to share a few concepts and artwork done for this project:

Nice artwork as usual.

One thing that I've been thinking of is that a lot of the big game companies come out with games with ungodly themes. Example: Dragon Age (1 and 2) includes character intimate character romance and even the option to do same-sex romance. And so some players I read posts about try to bed all the characters they can. I don't want to start a debate about whether games cause violence or ungodly behavior (I think it's impossible to prove), but I do believe games influence people and can help facilitate shifts in culture. With games like GTA that glorify stealing and the multitude of other games that glorify killing, I believe it is shifting our culture away from God-given principles and values.

The more games out there that teach Godly character the better. I think, in today's culture, even gentle nudges is important and points need not only be made by a Bible-thumping, Gospel-preaching message.

Peace,
~Kris

Well said Kris. I have Mass Effect, and although its a great game, there were a few things I found simply ridiculous. For example, my Commander Shepard was female, and throughout the game, it got kinda ridiculous on how many of the female Normandy crew would hit on me. I was like really? Especially in Mass Effect 3. Not only that, but a great number of the characters that can be romanced throughout the series, will fire towards any direction if you catch my drift. Clearly trying to be a $100 dollar bill to everyone. A little integrity goes a long way.

Anyways, I totally agree with you. Which is why I don't want my projects to just be another story with cool characters, but something with substance. Godly substance. ;)

So what kind of game do you vision this to be? 3rd person action? What game engine do you use?

3rd Person Over the Shoulder I think would work well. Im also thinking similar to Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted. As to what engine im using, at the moment none. Since im busy idea, design and concept building. Im nowhere near deciding what engine to use etc. I did have the idea of doing a 2D game based off this world to help build interest, but the real game im thinking of is going to be much more stylish, epic and cinematic. It may require something from scratch or based off an advanced engine like Unreal, Id Tech, or something other.

I'd be interested to help out after the speedgame. I've been getting good with Unity3d if you think that might suit the game's needs. If want to team up I could do coding and you can do art. Something to pray about...

Ninehart sounds interesting! But, what weapons does Alice have? Guns? Knives? Or awesome strength?

Alice is a close-combat specialist and shock trooper. Her main weapons are a Pancor Automatic Shotgun, a combat knife, and several martial arts skills.

Any ideas on melee combat mechanics?

I haven't given it much thought yet. I like Metal Gear Solids CQC system, but I want something more fluid, maybe even enable combos. I envision the game as 3rd person over the shoulder, similar to Resident Evil 4,5 and 6. But I want melee to be more than just a simple attack animation like in those games. Or something more than a one-two-three punch and kick, a choke hold and a throw like in MGS. Given that each character that forms part of the Novem Cor team has a combat specialty, some of them are very deadly in close-range combat and so I need a combat system that is flexible for both ranged and melee combat. But of course, this would be in the more advanced game. For the simpler sidescroller game I have in mind, melee will be much simpler, except for one character, who prefers melee over range almost entirely.

Aside from that, here is some more art!

Hey guys, been a while since I've posted here. Gonna leave here a concept I did some time ago to further develop the visual style of this project.
