Have a nice relaxing weekend without any work going on for a change. Taking the opportunity to try out some new process reimagining Jake the Dog from Adventure Time:

Oh man, I'm going to have to show this post to my friends. Reminds me of the realistic remagining of Mario and Bowser that's been floating around.

Hey everyone! :)
I'm working on a strategy game for a friend, I currently call it World war, but I will probably call it something else when I finish it.
It's based off of a game called cartoon wars.
It works like this:
You have four-five towers that you can raise or upgrade, You have a Barracks with which you can build tanks, trucks, or squadrons. ANd a plane calling thing with which you can get hellicopters or bombers.
It will be played against AI or fight to the death.
Just got back to programming!

I have taken a long sabbatical from game dev, but I'm finally getting back into it.

Last night I submitted an update to my game Leaf Catcher. It was crazy looking back into the source code- I hadn't done anything with it for almost 2 years! But here's what I did to it:

- resized everything to fit the upcoming NOOK HD tablets from Barnes and Noble.
- added a pause feature
- greatly tweaked and improved difficulty. the game is actually beatable now!
- along with other improvements

I stayed up through the night playtesting and actually enjoyed playing my game for once. Now! Onward to more projects! (:

Looks cool Launcher! Don't forget that some buildings have flat roofs (unless you plan for that to be part of the look). :)

acctually i was thinking of making the citys a representation of 2 societys, this being the good city, with windows in the roofs letting in light. that its clean and moral. obviously the one you seen is my attempts at making good architecture, representing the good side.

think it pulls off a good city look? like a this is how god fearing servents would build buildings?

making a diabolical city is simple, have casino signs and other vices.

what im aiming for is a contrast of the 2 societys, 1 aspiring to be good, 1 aspiring to do whatever they wish (bad). drawing comparisons on how there individual life as a hole reflects upon the society. and what the ramifications of things have on the society.

the comic will take both sides, from both sides perspective. it will be very political in manys eyes.

Currently scrambling to finish a zip clone written in C++ for my Software Engineering class. Working as a team of two with another classmate. He's stuck on geting the LZW compression algorithm to work, I'm wrapping up folder recursion for the archival code.

I'm doing some string manipulation to pull out the relative path of the all files that will be put in the archive and concatenating that with the "prefix" so that istream can actually read the binary data off the disk. Easier said than done, especially since we have to write all our code from scratch and can't even use helper APIs like Boost :(.

My partner wanted to do this project as a multi-threaded project. He took care of the threading, I've been focusing on file I/O and the archival code. We have one of the smallest main() functions I've ever had in a large project:

Code: Select all

int main(int argc, char * argv[])
{

    if (argc > 2) {
        filename = string(argv[2]);

        ContainerStruct readWrite;
        readWrite.reader = new CompressionReader;
        readWrite.writer = new CompressionWriter;
        readWrite.compressor = new Compressor;

        pthread_t readerThread, compressorThread, writerThread;

        //later this will fork threads
        readWrite.reader->DiscoverFiles(argv[1]);
        readWrite.writer->CreateFile(filename);

        pthread_create(&readerThread, NULL, ProcessListHelper, (void*)&readWrite);
        pthread_create(&compressorThread, NULL, LZWHelper, (void*)&readWrite);
        pthread_create(&writerThread, NULL, WriteFileHelper, (void*)&readWrite);

        pthread_join(readerThread, NULL);
        pthread_join(compressorThread, NULL);
        pthread_join(writerThread, NULL);
    }
    else {
        cout << "\tUsage: vac <input file or folder> <output archive name>\nMust specify an input file or folder and an output archive file name.\n";

    }
}

Working on a new iPhone game called Balloon Moon. I’m using FlashPunk 1.6 and coding in FlashDevelop and it’s coming along nicely. Today I’m going to work on physics like jumping and helium. I’m probably going to use a library like Box2D because I’m not very experienced with physics, but then again I don’t need it for much so I might try writing my own custom class.

Also, am I seriously the only one posting here? Come on people, show us what you're working on! (:

launcher - Hey! Ha, well the story is that you're in a mall and all the children dropped their balloons. So you have to run around and grab the balloons and give them back.

Here's a quick video of some of the gameplay:

Balloon Moon looks pretty cool so far. Are you using the lead character from Leaf Catcher in this one?

Brownboot, really nice art work!

As for me, I personally haven’t worked on anything original lately, but did put together a remix of an old NES game called Deadly Towers a month or so ago. If you’re interested in that type of thing, here are the links:

Here's the source song:

Here’s the arrangement I did:

Yeah, looking nice brownboot :)

Steve! Nice to see you on here! Balloon Moon was sort of just a prototype, so I don't know if I'll be continuing it or not.

I'm listening to your remix now. It's GREAT stuff man!

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I hope the good folks at Over Clocked Remix feel the same way. :)

The prototype for BM looks good. Is there a particular reason you're unsure about continuing with the project?
