took me 30 minutes on blender, would have been 20 if i didnt go looking for halo options (a sphere with no faces just points of lights that emit light and glow...)

i gave it a nice beat up, scratched up used up look. once you get use to blender it really can be done very quick.

the hole body was modled out of a standard cube ina few seconds, i split it up into 9 total segments a face, extended the wings out a few times, shrank and changed angles, extended the cockpit out, add more picles, and made some patterns. really was easy, should go back and add more structure to the window, but was pretty good.

the dirt came out good and made it look all dirty... the window is bad though...

i still had 90 minutes left so spent another 17 and made it far better. re did the window, made a cockpit so i can put red wall exteriors through and put in some controls and a helmet. gives it more of a real apperance to it. well its better, making the complex textures makes everything better. if left white or gray it would likely look very bad.

and thanks :)

so i spent another 50 minutes on it, made a bomber/transport and had some fun with that.

Image

i tried 1 more time to make it look more real, just swapped the lights out for different ones, the sun option made it all look gray so i used lamp lights. and switched the gray dirt on windows to black dirt...

This took under 2 hours, but I had already made the goblin, axe, rat, and little skulls prior, and the dragon wings/head were based on a non-skeletal dragon I made previously.. I can't explain the mechanics adequately, there is some sort of wheel similar to a bicycle pedal that the goblin turns to make the wings flap.. I guess there's a chain around the wheel which controls the gears and stuff beneath the platform.

thanks, but it's a bit sloppy actually, the wing bones are a little messed up.. I know its a 'speed' art challenge, but still I didn't rush it.. the hardest part for me is silhouettes.

:P luckily for me blender deals with much of that stuff, i just mutilate blocks, and put patterns on them :)

I've been wanting to make a ship with this general shape for a while. Given more time, I'd have liked to have added some extra details to the hull and turn it into usable sprite form, but this works.

i have no idea how you made that top pattern of hexagons, was that on a 3d modler? or like a paint program? or some kind of applying a face to an object? its pretty neat :)

I used a plugin I have for Paint.NET that distorts an image to the graph of a 3d function. I don't remember the exact function I used, but it was something like z = (1-(x/3)^2)*(1-(y/3)^2).

They don't normally, but Paint.NET supports plugins and has an active community that creates all kinds of awesome for it.
