IRC

Postby smchronos » Wed May 28, 2008 10:26 pm

I've tried and tried, but I can't seem to connect to the IRC channel. It's now irc://freenode/cdn-chatzone, right? I've tried but can't connect.

I'm using X-Chat Aqua 0.16 by the way, in case that explains the problem.

Do you guys have any ideas?

A user 'smAPPLE' showed up in the channel for about 2 minutes tonight... was that you? If so, I guess you know how to connect now :)

If not, hopefully your client allows you to type real irc commands. If so, this should get you on:

/server irc.freenode.net
/join #cdn-chatzone

For anyone wanting to try out the channel, say "Hi" or something when you show up as it might help get our attention. If you can, idle in the channel for a while (maybe, check your email or CDN or something) and see if anyone wakes up. Be patient :)

I'm an IRC newbie. I downloaded Firefox and ChatZilla yesterday just so I could get on. Is there a better client app I should use?

pidgin is good. i like chatzilla better myself, but pidgin has some features, i think, that chatzilla doesn't have.

Part of the reason why the link you provided doesn't work is that X-Chat doesn't integrate well with OS X. If you're a firefox user, I'd recommend Chatzilla. I'm not so I use Colloquy (http://colloquy.info/).

ChatZilla should be perfect for your needs, SSquared. However if you'd prefer not to use Firefox and you are a windows user, you can use X-Chat 2 (http://silverex.info/download/). I really enjoyed X-Chat for windows back when I was a slave... err user. :P

Could have been Han, since I don't remember seeing you on the IRC lately and I switched from X-Chat a few weeks ago.

I downloaded Colloquy, like CPU said, and I think I'm connected; however, no one has said anything on the channel, so I'm not sure if I'm receiving any message input.

I guess the recent freenode *Serv updates set all channels to be +R restricted requiring you to register and log in to chat.

I've reset the permissions so you can chat freely now without having to register. Come on over! :)

I'm trying to use Pidgin, but It keeps saying i can't connect. what, SPECIFICALLY, do I need ot put into the "sever" section? I'm assuming this is the only part I'm doing wrong. I tried the thing that Mack gaves us: the "irc://freenode/cdn-chatroom" thing (that may contain spelling error or whatever, i wrote it down out of memory, I coped and pasted the link itno the server secction.

halp?

Yeah, I don't fully understand the irc://server/channel syntax yet. I'm a little more IRC old school, and this is how we used to write it:

Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #cdn-chatzone
""

Whow.. it took me 15 minutes with my slow Cellphone connection to find this info about IRC.

Please add IRC channel info to FAQ or to main page http://www.christiandevs.com or some other obvious place.

That search function didint help me a thing, i tried putting "irc", "christian irc", "christiain irc channel" but it kept complaining that my search words were too common and didint do the search at all.

I seem to remember that at one point we had a topic stickied to The Water Cooler board but for some reason it has seemed to dissapear. I can no longer find the topic even with the search function. Though it would be nice if we do sticky a new topic with the info is if we could have it locked with a single post containing the all of the info(so you don't have to scroll though 10 posts to find what you need). Maybe include a link to another topic for mentioning things that were forgotten. Another idea could be to put a link in the main bar along with the search and FAQ links.

I saw you pop in, bugala, but I was away from the keyboard (actually taking a nap).
