UpRight (TeamBIO)

Postby blendenzo » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:54 pm

(For some images and concept goodies, go to the WIP thread)

Well, we didn't think we were going to make it in this year (we missed the original deadline, which was 8 o'clock here), but at 9:40 I saw Mack's post that the deadline had been changed back to what it was in previous years, so we decided to give it another try.

After four extra hours of intense stress, we uploaded our entry at the absolute last minute, only to find that we had uploaded the wrong (broken) version of the game. :( Mack kindly accepted the correct version, and we also have a mirror of it on our server:
http://teambio.blendenzo.com/speedgame09/UpRight.zip

What we did get done was a neat Speedgame intro (featuring my voice :D), an intro animation for our game, and a gameplay mechanic (which I managed to break right before putting this version together :( ), and some awesome art.

What we didn't get done was integration of our sound effects, music and voice acting; a win condition; and an ending sequence animation. They were all planned, but there just wasn't enough time for our solitary programmer to integrate all of the assets which so suddenly flooded him at the last minute (yay team!)

Also, Clean3D posted our Entry.txt, but he missed the part about posting the verse our game was based on. Here is that:

Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

From what we've been able to determine (since I can't play it :( ) is that our project does NOT work on Vista 64 bit. We had to interface pygame and SDL mixer with Blender (and by we, I mean Blendenzo), and from what we can determine, the error is caused by Blender mishandling python (I'm an artist, so ask Blendenzo for specifics). So to all you Vista users, we apologize. It's my hope that we can create a patch, but we'll see.

I got the game running, but it wasn't able to fully run. It might be my video card. Sorry I couldn't really play it. Sweet models, though!

Any information about the platforms you're running would be helpful.

You can see my hardware specs here:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2092

Other than that I'm running a fairly new build of Windows XP. So if there is utility program I need then odds are I don't have it.

Peace,
