Dev Blog | 316-games

Postby Berryijmker » Tue Jul 01, 2014 1:00 am

Added on 21 july
RomBot-109 is a puzzle typing game set in a fictional destructive world. Some parts of the game can be hard to solve. I only had time to do one level, but I will add more levels in the feature.
PLAY THE GAME HERE
----------------------------------------------------
Very exited to start on the speedgame again this year and see what everybody else will be making.

After looking at the themes I haven't decided yet which verse I will be choosing. I will probably choose between Ephesians 6:12 and Romans 10:9

Progress so far:
- july 1 chosen the theme
- july 2 Basic game concept complete
- july 4 Character design of the main character, a robot.
- july 5 First playable version of the game: Play here
- july 7 Added more environment graphics, changed the movement for a new system.
- july 8 Created and added soundfx, updated the UI
- july 9 Added fire particles & some more level objects and more soundfx
- july 10 Added a new player action with the corresponding sprites

Haha, sorry Bugala.

I have decided which theme to use, it will be: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” -Romans 10:9
There is a lot of interesting things I can do with it, I don't like to tell the game concept before the game is finished, but I will post screenshots so you can guess.

Most I can tell about it now is that it will be a 2d game haha :)

I'm guessing this will be the least-used verse (though I could be wrong). It will be so interesting to see where this goes!

@achild

I would imagine so too, that that verse would be least used verse when used alone. For how can you make any game out of it? I cant figure out a single idea solely on that that would make any sense.

I am waiting with mouth open on amazement what berryijmker will be able to figure out from that, for last year hes stumbling blocks was pretty funny allegory idea. So if hes able to do the same with this verse. Well, it be interesting to see what it is going to be that comes out of it.

Hope it aint pacman clone where pacman keeps confessing with hes mouth each time he opens it.

@bugala I didn't participate in the last 2 speedgames, so I did not make stumbling blocks ;) it is playable on my site however.

Don't worry, it won't be a pacman clone haha

I will take the core out of the text to use it as the game mechanic which is for me: declaring something/words/combination to be saved. How to declare something and from what and how you will be saved I will keep a secret.

Hmm, then who was the one who made the stumbling blocks. I was sure it was you. I specifically remembered you made and put it to your website, but i must remember wrong then...

Yes, can finally start on the speedgame, to bad I don't have that much time today but I found some time this morning to start on the player character. After hearing other speedgamers having ninja's, thiefs, vikings etc. I was missing the robots haha. No it just fits my concept very well.

Right now the robot doesn't have legs, mostly because I really don't like to do walking animations, I'm not that good in it, for now I have a character I can use. I want to use a silhouette graphic style in my game like the image shows below.

Still not sure if I will make the lights blue, white or an other color. Like I sad for now this character will do, maybe I will change it in the next couple of days.

I made it a bit of a fancy image because I also want to train myself on presentation of my games/concepts/projects

Worked on character movement and the atmosphere of the game today. First version of the game can already be played here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/344 ... index.html

Only character movement, collision with certain objects and to get a good start with the atmosphere/feeling of the game.

Thank you all for the kind words, am really enjoying this speedgame.

Today I added some more environment art to make it look more like a building ready to collapse and added a crashed "ship" as starting point.
The movement isn't done by mouse anymore, how it's done now I will keep a secret.

Here is the latest screenshot.

By plugging two cords directly to your brain and just thinking where to move, and then it moves the opposite direction?

@bugala, yeah that would be really interesting :)
@b-o thank you

A few days have past since I posted an update here. I added some more level elements, added a lot of soundfx for the robot. I had doubts about having more levels or just one level which explains the goal/plot of the game. I have decided that it will be one level. I might if I have time create more levels after that but the goal of the game should already be clear at that time.

Also added some fire particles which you may not touch.

And here is another screenshot.
