Dev Blog | ROM12

Postby samw3 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 11:38 am

Hi guys! It's been a while since I've been on the forums. Something about having two young kids now and a ton of work keeping me busy. I know, I know. It's no excuse.

Well, ROM12 is back together for SpeedGame 2014.

We've picked Hosea 6:6 and know we're doing a platformer, but that's about it for now. We'll keep you posted!

God Bless!

Sam

We made pretty good progress this weekend! We plotted out the story and established that we're going to do a chunky pixel platformer again. My brother John will be joining us again on the art, but probably just to help a bit.

Robin has been getting tile maps set up while I've been working through establishing the art style.

I wanted to get a feel for the world, so I made this world map to help plan the flow of the game.

Progress marches on! Learning this engine has slowed us down a bit. We ran into some trouble with texture bleeding due to the nearest neighbor scaling of the pixel art, but was able to work around it with a script.

And now we have a game!! Well, sorta..

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Here's an update starring Beefy Red Yoda!

He a great actor, but will be shortly replaced by a new character. As soon as John gets around to drawing him..

So, yeah, we're progressing. Robin has most of the platforming engine done. I've finished two of the levels. We're working on death now, er, being able to die, well, you know what I mean.

Now you can pick up a red square! And of course we have some excellent new character art from Brother John.
