Current Progress:
Well I must say that I feel very honored by having one of my suggested verses(Romans 10:9) selected for this years Annual SpeedGame Challenge.
For my speedgame, I plan on using a combination of the Romans and Ephesians verses.

The game will revolve around escaping addiction. Ultimately I see things like this. Using bible verses as a support system with a central focus on Romans 10:9.
Sort of like a spiderweb of verses with the entire game core centralized/revolving on the selected verses. At the Heart of the game, or the inner circle if you will, is the main characters desire to escape his/her bondage to addiction. On the outside of this desire is the main characters own desires which are contrary to those of the Spirit. Because of this, there is much spiritual warfare taking place between the character and the flesh(as in their own desires), rulers, authorities, etc. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. -Galatians 5:17.

The goal of the game will be to have the main character confess with their mouth that "Jesus is Lord" and to have the character believe it in their heart. See Romans 10:9.
As the player, you will take on the role of an Angel who will "serve and minister to" a randomly generated character. Please see Hebrews 1:14, Psalm 91:11, and Matthew 4:11
As an Angel, you will be operating in the spiritual/heavenly realms and will assist the main character by battling "against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil” -Ephesians 6:12
You can only do so much in your role as an Angel because the main character will be making their own choices as they are tempted and drawn away by their own desires, and enticed. See James 1:14. To further elaborate on this point, please also see once again Galatians 5:17

I have been thinking about making a 2D platformer for quite some time now. However I'm thinking that I might go with a temple run styled theme for this game. I'm aiming to have procedurally generated content within the game. I also plan to have the main character procedurally generated as well with names pulled from a random pool. Such as what the developers of WatchDogs did for the citizens of Chicago. I would like to express to players that people of all shapes and sizes, genders and nationalities suffer from all kinds of addictions. At this time I do not plan to target a specific kind of addiction for several reasons. One reason is to avoid exposure to that particular addiction. A player currently addicted to 'x' doesn't need to come across 'x'. Another reason is to keep the game random. Randomizing data will allow endless possibilities and experiences. For anyone reading this, I'm open to any ideas. May the Spirit guide us in our choices! Best of luck to all developers!

So it's been a couple of days and I'm glad to say that a lot of progress has been made. I have picked up a team member, Edward Cruz who shows great desire for game development. The majority of our progress has been on the title screen of the game which includes animations, artwork and player/character interaction. Designing and creating the main character took me roughly 5 hours of non-stop work. That is, with animations and all. The character design process was a fun learning experience since we have plans for procedural characters. The title screen was created with simple art and animations but we find that with our chosen title screen music, it delivers a vivid experience. We want to express a warm welcoming experience for players. While designing the title screen, team member Edward Cruz helped plenty with the brainstorming of how the actual gameplay will work out. We have decided on the entire system and have laid it out for ourselves. With the title screen, animations and a simple character complete, we are now ready to continue development with the rest of the game. It's going to be a busy month. Once again, may the Lord bless all contestants!

Sounds good! Don't forget about screenshots every now and then! Would be great to see the progress unfold.

When you see the screenshot, what do you imagine in your head the game will play out like? I'd love to make adjustments to the game based upon what people would like to see.

What i would really like to see when pressing a start button is for that guy on that picture to move out of picture from right, and then coming next similar kind of graphics having picture and notice that the whole game plays that way and I am moving that guy around in simple 80s era manner. As example Pyjamarama: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Y5lFqV2b0 , but with todays playing, meaning there is more story and plot...

@bugala, funny of you to mention. It actually works quite similar to that at the moment. Prior to hitting the start button the character is locked in place with a simple idle animation. When the player hits the start button, a short introductory animation is played. Shortly after, the character is seamlessly released to the player with a message that introduces the movement keys. It's working out quick well.

A platformer-adeventure game. Driven by a story. Not fast paced. Might have puzzle elements. Character is probably on his own, so story is delivered through text narration/monologue rather than through friendly NPCs. May involve zombies (the text is very zombie-esque), but given the title that doesn't seem to fit with the warm feel. The character is lost and lonely but in no real danger.

Looking forward to more :)

The screenshot looks good. But are the white dots snow, or are there stars in front of the telephone pole?

Thanks for that. I do believe I should go with the text narration and a story for this game. I believe it will play out better that way.

I'm creating the game using Unity and threw in a quick particle effect for the snow. The telephone poles are not yet in their own layers, so the stars appear over them. One of the many things on my to do list.
